The Department of Energy̕s
Community College Internships (CCI) program. 10 weeks at one of 16

The DOE̕s Science Undergraduate Laboratory
Internship (SULI) program. Similar to CCI, but open to students from 2 year or

The National Science Foundation̕s
Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program. NSF funds programs at
colleges and universities all over the country. Exactly which ones can change
from year to year, but recent examples in our area include SUNY Geneseo and

A GCC graduate from about 25 years ago sent information about

Click Search Jobs at the top. Then, click where it says Keyword Search and
enter requisition number 20166 for
Technical Interns, 20165 for Business Interns or 20428 for Information
Technology Interns. Depending on when you̕re looking, there may
be no positions posted. The last I knew, enrollment was available in the second
half of February. For example, apply February 14-28, 2018 for a summer 2019
position. Applying so far in advance is to allow you time to get security clearance.
And of course, you can google summer science internships and
see what comes up.
Scholarships:
Phi Theta Kappa. If
you are eligible, be sure to join GCC̕s chapter of . There are several colleges and universities which will
reduce your tuition by thousands of dollars if you do.
The Department of Defense (DoD) SMART Scholarship Program. smartscholarship.org
They pay tuition, a stipend, provide summer internships, leading to a defense
related civilian job. There is probably a catch, like maybe a minimum amount of
time you have to work for them after graduation, but I don̕t
know what it is. (If you find out, let me know.)
The New York State Transfer &
Articulation Association gives six awards of $1000 to students
completing an Associates degree and transferring. http://www.nystaa.org/transfer-scholarship/
For students
interested in Clarkson University in Potsdam NY, there are the Clarkson
Transfer Leadership Award ($15,000 per year) and the Clarkson Transfer
Achievement Award ($12,000 per year).
GCC can nominate one student for each award each year. This opportunity
often goes unused, so if you want it and you are qualified you can probably get
it. Eligibility: students must:

Intend to transfer to
a four-year institution beginning in the Fall 2019 semester (we will
consider all students; graduating students receive priority)

Demonstrate leadership
and academic qualities

Academic interest in
business, engineering, science, health sciences or liberal arts
·
Have a minimum GPA of
3.00 (students below this will be considered on a case-by-case basis)
